We engineered the ARC-16 for the edge cases, the line breaks, the acute angles, and the complex crossovers that trip up standard sensors. By doubling the resolution of the standard array and curving it up, we’ve given makers the ability to write smarter, case-driven logic that anticipates the track before the wheels even react.

The ARC-16 is an analog based optical powerhouse developed for elite competition and comprehensive learning. By utilizing a 16x4 MUX architecture, it maintains a compact footprint while offering maximum track coverage through 16 individual IR sensors. Whether you are building a world-class maze solver or defining high complexity edge cases, the ARC-16 provides the raw data at phenomenal speeds with a sensor density optimized for reliability and high-speed precision. Featuring visual markers and indicator LEDs, makers can easily code their way through the most complex arenas.

DIMENSIONS

SOFTWARE AND PROCESSING
◘ The ARC-16 is a 16-channel IR sensor array designed to provide 2 Dimensional surface detection. It consists of sixteen infrared transmitter-receiver pairs arranged to capture both horizontal and vertical contrast variations. The sensor uses a multiplexer (MUX) based architecture to route multiple analog signals through a limited number of microcontroller Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) pins, optimizing hardware resource usage while maintaining high sensing resolution.
◘ During operation, the microcontroller controls the MUX selection lines to sequentially scan all 16 sensor channels. This time-multiplexed sampling process enables efficient acquisition of multi-channel data using a single or limited ADC inputs.
◘ Because of its 2D sensing capability, the ARC-16 can detect and differentiate complex line configurations such as acute angles, 90° turns, circular loops, intersections (T and + junctions), line breaks, asymmetric paths and even track inversions at different angles. These configurations can be reliably interpreted and resolved through appropriate software logic and pattern recognition code.
